Who: Team Cassie. On behalf of his daughter Cassie, who is blind since birth and living with autism, Cassie’s father Mike ran the 2013 Pittsburgh Marathon blindfolded. Mike ran with a partner as a guide and raised money and awareness for the Vision Research ROPARD Foundation. In 2014, Mike will run the Pittsburgh Marathon blindfolded again! This time he will run on behalf of the organization Autism Speaks.
The Need: To spread awareness and raise funds for the race, Cassie’s family held an April event called “Light It Up Blue for The Long Run,” with food, entertainment, raffle prizes, and auction items. They printed Team Cassie temporary tattoos for this event as a fun giveaway for Cassie’s young classmates and friends.
The Tattoo: The tattoo design represents Cassie’s challenges. The puzzle piece represents autism and the cane represents vision impairment. The cute curly letters in in the word “team” symbolize Cassie’s distinctive curly hair!
The Results: Cassie’s family was very happy with the temporary tattoos. They were a big hit with kids of all ages at the April fundraising event and Cassie’s mom plans to use the tattoos as giveaways at future events.
